ELAN Hosts First Ever Spelling Bee Finale
Extend Learning Academies Network (ELAN) celebrated a landmark event on 9 February 2026 with its very first ELAN Spelling Bee, bringing together pupils from all nine ELAN primary schools: Banwell, Bournville, Locking, Mead Vale, Mendip Green, Milton Park, Oldmixon, Walliscote and Windwhistle.
The competition began several months ago, with around 2,000 pupils from Years 3–6 taking part in preliminary rounds across their schools. After a series of challenging heats, the top nine finalists from Years 3/4 and Years 5/6—two from each school—earned their place in the grand final.
In front of a live audience of families, teachers and peers, the finalists competed in three demanding rounds: individual spelling, a wordsearch challenge and a quick‑fire round. Each pupil demonstrated exceptional courage, determination and linguistic skill throughout the evening.
“We are incredibly proud of every child who took part,” said an ELAN spokesperson. “Tonight wasn’t just about spelling—it was a celebration of resilience, hard work and bravery.”
ELAN congratulates all finalists on their outstanding achievements and thanks the school communities for their support in making the inaugural Spelling Bee a resounding success.
