Make a strategic impact where it matters most

Are you a strategic HR professional who wants to use your expertise for real social impact?

Extend Learning Academies Network (ELAN) is a family of nine highly inclusive primary schools across North Somerset. All of our schools support a high number of SEND pupils from a range of communities, including some of the most disadvantaged neighbourhoods in the country. This diversity shapes who we are and drives our commitment to inclusion, wellbeing, and opportunity for every child.

We know that exceptional education depends on exceptional people. That’s why we’re looking for a strategic HR professional to join our Board of Trustees to help shape the people strategy that underpins our success.

What you’ll do

As a Trustee with HR expertise, you’ll play a key role in guiding our long‑term direction and ensuring ELAN remains a great place to work. You will:

Influence our people strategy – guide our recruitment, retention, talent development and succession planning.
Provide oversight – guide the Board’s monitoring of key workforce trends around wellbeing, engagement, turnover and diversity.
Champion our culture – helping us continue to build an inclusive, supportive, high‑performing environment across all schools.
Advise senior leaders – acting as a sounding board for our CEO and HR Lead on organisational design, workforce planning and employee relations.

About you

We’re looking for an experienced HR professional operating at senior management or director level. You might come from education, the private sector, or the wider public sector — we crave fresh perspectives.

You’ll bring:
✔ Strategic HR leadership experience
✔ Confidence in organisational design, culture and talent strategy
✔ Strong communication skills and the ability to offer constructive challenge
✔ A values‑driven approach aligned with our charitable purpose
